The best facial in San Carlos, if lymphatic is what you want

Cleveland Clinic describes the technique as light pressure that moves fluid out of a swollen area and toward the nodes, and on the face that is aimed at puffiness. Square's own listing puts the intent plainly: help reduce puffiness, improve circulation, and leave your skin refreshed.

There are no extractions, no chemical peel, no microdermabrasion and no HydraFacial device. If you are booking because your skin is congested, breaking out, or you want a resurfacing treatment, this is the wrong appointment and an esthetician or a dermatologist is the right one. Saying so costs us a booking and saves you an afternoon.

The word on most lymphatic menus, ours included, is detox. Your liver and kidneys do that. NCCIH points to a 2015 review that found no compelling evidence that detox programs eliminate toxins from the body, and notes the studies behind them tend to be small and low in quality. What an hour of this plausibly moves is fluid.

Both combinations start at $189 for 90 minutes. The difference is what fills the first hour, and whether you want the facial half to run 30 minutes or 60.

Neither one carries the Grand Opening extras. Hot stones, hot compress and cupping are included on the Signature, Couples, Four Hands and Prenatal bookings, and the lymphatic services sit outside that promotion.

The bodywork runs first and the face comes second, so you are already flat and warm by the time anyone touches your jaw. The strokes stay light throughout — this is the same technique as the body work, scaled to a smaller area, and people are routinely surprised by how little pressure is involved.

A 30 minute facial covers the face, jaw and neck. The 60 minute option at $239 buys repetition rather than extra territory: the same route worked more slowly and more times, which is how lymphatic technique is meant to be delivered. Expect to use the bathroom more than usual afterwards.

Pick by what the first hour is for. Both end the same way, and both cost $189 at 90 minutes, so the choice is entirely about the bodywork half.

Take Massage + Lymphatic Facial and pay the extra $50 for the 60 minute facial at $239. The first hour is a conventional massage at whatever pressure you ask for — Square's description names Deep Tissue or Swedish, your pick — so it does the job a normal massage does while the second hour goes to the face.

Take Lymphatic Drainage + Lymphatic Facial at $189, currently listed against a regular price of $209. The whole 90 minutes is lymphatic: 60 minutes of gentle full-body drainage, then 30 minutes on the face. Nobody will dig into a knot during it, which is the point of the booking rather than a shortcoming of it.

Cleveland Clinic names 8 conditions that rule lymphatic work out: blood clots, cellulitis, deep vein thrombosis, fever, heart disease, infection, kidney failure and stroke. It adds 2 areas a provider will not work directly over — cancerous tissue, and skin damaged by radiation therapy. If one of those describes you, the next step is a conversation with your doctor rather than a decision at the front desk.

Two more that come up on the facial specifically. If you have had injectables recently, ask the person who administered them how long to wait before anyone works over the area. And if a clinician has diagnosed you with lymphedema, the treatment for that is complete decongestive therapy delivered by a certified lymphedema therapist, and a $189 spa booking is not a substitute for the referral.

A 90 minute booking has to start by 7:30 PM and the 120 minute one by 7 PM, which makes both of them realistic after a workday rather than only on a weekend. Walk-ins are welcome when a room is free, though a 2 hour appointment is the least likely thing to be open on the spot.
